It is a way of joining pieces of wood, and is one type of joint. It is a method of joining two pieces of wood by making a dovetail, or ant-shaped protrusion, called an ant, on the end of the piece of wood, and carving a hole of the same shape into the end of another piece of wood. In the past, carpenters would carve this by hand, but nowadays, pre-cut pieces are processed by machine.
