Parquet / Versailles upholstery

A new parquet design was invented to decorate the Palace of Versailles in 17th century France. The square and rectangular floor frames of the palace's Hall of Mirrors feature diagonal lines woven into the floor, which is called Versailles parquet, and has since been widely used on table tops in Western furniture.
