Collection: Monks Bench
It is a traditional British furniture that combines a table, bench, and storage. It is said that the name monk was given because it was modeled after the functional furniture used by monks (nuns). At the time, monks were restricted in the furniture and personal belongings they could bring into the monastery due to their strict discipline. As such, they preferred this furniture, which could be used in three ways, and it later came to be called a monk's bench. Monk's benches, which appeared from the mid-17th century, were initially undecorated. Later, due to power struggles between powerful clans and wars, people were forced to live a life of frequent travel, and this furniture, which is easy to carry and has a wide range of uses, became popular among the general public. Monk's benches for the general public began to be decorated, and benches with various designs appeared.
