It started as a private brand of Seiyu in 1980 with the basic concept of competing with existing brands. The brand name is a direct translation of the English phrase "No Brand Goods." In 1983, it opened a street-front store in Aoyama. It then became independent from Seiyu in 1989. Its first overseas store opened in London in 1991, and its first US store opened in New York in 2007. It has gained widespread support for its simple, yet high-quality and functional products, with universal designs that fit into any living space.
