Collection: Knoll
It is said that the history of Knoll is the history of the modern design movement in America. Knoll was founded in New York in 1938 by Hans Knoll, the son of Walter C. Knoll, the founder of WALTER KNOLL, the most popular German furniture brand in Europe. At the age of 13, Hans was impressed by the innovative design furniture he saw at an exhibition of the Bauhaus art school, and at the age of 24, he created a company that realized the idea of "industrially produced, inexpensive, and high-quality furniture" of the Bauhaus and the art movement of the time, and took his first steps towards success. He released many masterpieces of modern design through groundbreaking collections in collaboration with famous designers such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Eero Saarinen, and joint development with artists such as Harry Bertoia, Jean Risom, and Isamu Noguchi. He had a great influence not only on American designers, but also on the Scandinavian master Paul Kjaerholm and later furniture design. The Barcelona Chair, which was impossible for other companies to produce at the time, was realized through Knoll's high technical skills and research, and is now part of MoMA's permanent collection. Currently, Knoll operates a wide range of interior design businesses, including Knoll Studio, which includes past works, Knoll Office, which specializes in comfortable and innovative office use, such as the Bohroq Chair, and Knoll Textiles, a textile division that manufactures curtains and upholstery. The company continues to propose furniture designed by great designers, and has earned high support from around the world.
