Collection: Globe Wernicke

A specialist manufacturer of office and library furniture that continues to this day. Otto HL Wernicke, who invented the stacking bookcase in 1889, founded Wernicke & Co. in Minneapolis, USA in 1893. In 1899, it merged with Globe, which also had factories in the UK, Germany, and France, to form Globe-Wernicke & Co. At the time, the stacking bookcase was apparently patented by Globe-Wernicke, and even today, the company's bookcases are traded at high prices among antique collectors.
