Collection: Fuchu Furniture
Furniture making (chest making) began in Fuchu, a city of furniture, about 290 years ago. It is said to have begun during the Hoei era when Uchiyama Enzo of Bingo Arimaro Village learned how to make chests in Osaka and started making chests after returning home. During the Meiji era, various woodworking products, including chests and long chests, were made here as a side job during the farming off-season. From the Taisho to Showa eras, more than 100 chest craftsmen worked here, and woodworking took root and developed in Fuchu. The climate is suitable for drying wood, and high-quality products can be made with little distortion or warping, so the area continues to develop as an ideal place for making furniture. Around the 1950s, the company established its brand status by developing a "wedding furniture set," and now, Fuchu furniture is being reborn with the development and production of living room, dining room, and kitchen furniture based on the technology cultivated in wedding furniture and chests.
