Karaki furniture

This is a traditional Chinese craft furniture made from hard wood, without nails, by joint construction and adhesives. It was brought to Japan by Japanese envoys to the Tang Dynasty during the Nara period, and because it was made of rare wood, it was called Kara-ki or Kara-ki, and so it is known as Kara-ki furniture in Japan. Kara-ki refers to wood such as ebony, rosewood, Chinese quince, and ironwood, which are very hard and have beautiful grain and have been used since ancient times as the raw material for high-end furniture.
