Collection: Directoire style
In the late 18th century in France, when Louis XVI was replaced by Napoleon, this style was popular for a short period after the revolution, combining delicacy, simplicity, and strictness. Directoire means "consul". While following the delicate dimensions and fit of the neoclassical style, the decoration is rebellious against the tastes of the royal and aristocratic generations of the previous era, and has many ancient motifs such as ancient Greece, Rome, Pompeii, and Egypt. Greek elements increased and changed into the later Empire style.
