Collection: Römer Cup

Wine glasses were made in Germany around the 15th and 16th centuries, and later spread to the Netherlands and other countries. There are various theories about the origin of the word Römer, but the most popular is that it is a sake cup used during toasts, derived from "roemen," which means "to praise or bless." The protrusions on the handle, called plants, are said to have been designed to prevent slipping so that the glass could be held even with oily hands after grabbing food.
