The history of Denby began in 1809 when clay was discovered during road construction in Derbyshire, England. Denby's founder, William Bourne, investigated the quality of the clay and was convinced of its potential, and began manufacturing pottery near the clay layer discovered in 1809. Denby pride themselves on the strength and exceptional craftsmanship of their products and have been manufacturing in England for over 200 years, with chip-resistant glazes and a minimum of two firings to ensure unbreakable dishware. Not only is it a part of British historical heritage, but the brand continues to create timeless collections, following current trends to create modern products.
