Collection: Wajima Lacquerware

There are various theories about the origin of Wajima lacquerware, but the oldest surviving example is the vermilion-lacquered door of Juzo Gongen Main Hall in Kawai-machi, said to have been made in 1524 during the Muromachi period. The techniques of lacquerware itself can be traced back to the Jomon period, and over a long period of time, they have accumulated ingenuity, refined their skills, and continued to evolve and deepen. Always seeking more beautiful, better, and more outstanding things, people with that strong will have enhanced and refined the history of Wajima lacquerware. Timeless value comes from skills that have been honed over time.
