Takamakie

A type of maki-e technique. Takamaki-e (a transparent lacquer mixed with large amounts of lamp black, red ocher, and yellow orb) is applied over the lacquer base, and then flat maki-e is applied on top of that. It began in the Kamakura period, and in the Muromachi period, sabi-age maki-e using rust lacquer was invented.
