This parquet-top coffee table is by Nathan, one of the most representative British mid-century furniture brands.
The simple form of this Nathan coffee table is accented with a parquet top. Its vintage feel blends gently into the room and creates a relaxing space. It is less available than G-PLAN or McINTOSH, which appeals to collectors.
After the war, modern Scandinavian design became very popular, and Scandinavian-style furniture began to be made in the UK as well. The UK's high level of technology and production capacity, which had a foundation in traditional furniture making, made it possible to produce high-quality furniture. Representative British manufacturers include G-PLAN, which was one of the first to adopt Danish design, and the long-established Scottish manufacturers AHMcIntosh and Nathan. There were also many other excellent Scandinavian-style furniture manufacturers. Nathan was founded in 1916 in London, England, when Russian-born Barnett Nathan produced handmade furniture. In 1954, the company gained fame when it was selected as a representative British design at a furniture exhibition held in New York, and began full-scale production of teak furniture. Along with Ebenezer Goom, famous for the G-plan series, Nathan has developed into one of the leading furniture manufacturers of the British mid-century. In particular, the "Classic Range" series is a timeless design that perfectly combines excellent comfort and craftsmanship.
