This narrow bookcase is part of the Group3 series designed by Richard Young for G-PLAN, a brand representative of British mid-century design.
This slim cabinet is ideal for storing small paperback books, tableware, collections, etc. Its clean, simple design has more storage capacity than it looks, making it a highly practical item.
The Group3 series, designed by Richard Young, was released in 1962, at the same time as the G-PLAN Danish series. The Danish series was designed for larger floor plans, but the Group3 series was designed for smaller floor plans. As a 1962 project under the master designer Eve Kofod-Larsen, it was one of the first to use teak wood and embodied Danish design ahead of the Brasilia and Fresco series. It was only available for a short period of time, making it a rare series, and it is known as a hidden gem among G-PLAN supporters.
Born in 1930, he studied at the RCA under Ron Carter. He was a designer at G-PLAN, the largest manufacturer of contemporary furniture in the UK from the 1950s to the late 1970s. He is known for designing many ranges for G-PLAN. His signature work is a set of three dining chairs and a matching table influenced by Hans Wegner.
