This captain's chair is made from Mizumezakura wood by Kyushu Folk Crafts Furniture.

Folk furniture, which has its roots in Matsumoto folk furniture, has a consistent color scheme and a design that harmonizes with both Japanese and Western spaces, so it can be combined with other folk furniture to create a complete furniture set.

Kyushu Folk Craft Furniture: Folk furniture is created by inheriting the spirit of the folk art movement of Yanagi Soetsu, and representative examples include Matsumoto Folk Furniture, Hokkaido Folk Furniture, and Kitakyushu Tsukushi Folk Furniture. Tsukushi Kogei was established in 1961 as a Kyushu region retailer of Matsumoto Folk Furniture, but then parted ways with Matsumoto Folk Furniture and established Tsukushi Kogei (Kitakyushu Folk Furniture). Based on designs by architect Ito Yasubei, who could be considered the second generation of the folk art movement, the company produces chairs and furnishings, and sells Kyushu Folk Furniture, a high-end brand that mainly sells custom-made furniture and is made by hand using solid cherry wood and keyaki wood. Compared to Hokkaido Folk Furniture, it has a strong craft feel and a simple, sturdy design, accented with vertical lattice designs, and has been highly acclaimed second only to Matsumoto Folk Furniture among the many folk furniture brands.
