1834年にJames Powell & Sonsとして創業した、英国を代表するガラスメーカー。19世紀後半にはアーツ・アンド・クラフツ運動を代表するメーカーとして発展し、戦後はモダニズムを取り入れた革新的なデザインで英国ガラスデザインを牽引しました。1954年より在籍したデザイナー、Geoffrey Baxter(ジェフリー・バクスター) が手がけた「Textured Range(テクスチャードシリーズ)」は、樹皮や木肌を思わせる大胆なテクスチャーと鮮やかな色彩が特徴で、現在も英国ヴィンテージガラスを代表するシリーズとして世界中のコレクターから高く評価されています。

ジェフリー・バクスター Geoffrey Baxter

1922年生まれのイギリスを代表するガラスデザイナー。ロイヤル・カレッジ・オブ・アートを首席で卒業後、1954年にWhitefriars Glass(ホワイトフライアーズ・グラス) の社長兼チーフデザイナーであるWilliam Wilson(ウィリアム・ウィルソン) に見出され、同社初の外部出身デザイナーとして入社。北欧デザインの影響を受けながらも独自のスタイルを確立し、色彩やテクスチャーを巧みに生かした作品を数多く発表しました。1967年に発表した「Textured Range（テクスチャードシリーズ）」は、樹皮や木肌を思わせる力強い質感と鮮やかな色彩を特徴とする代表作の一つです。その功績は現在も高く評価され、英国ヴィンテージガラスを代表するデザイナーとして世界中のコレクターに支持されています。
