Thonet(トーネット)による Michael Thonet(ミヒャエル・トーネット)デザイン、ベントウッドアームチェアNo.207です。

1830年にドイツのミヒャエル・トーネットが曲木家具の技術を開発。当時、家具は木を「切る」「削る」という工程を経て製作されるのが常識でしたが、天然の無垢材を蒸し鉄の型に沿って曲げて曲線に成型する事で、今までにない上品で美しいカーブを持つ家具をつくる事が可能になりました。流れるような美しい背のループラインは世紀を越えて今でも廃れることのない機能性と美しさを併せ持っています。

トーネット Thonet

創始者のミヒャエル・トーネット(Michael Thonet)が1819年に創業して以来、200年近い歴史を誇る曲げ木家具メーカー。曲木の椅子の発明から始まり、19世紀末にはユーゲント・スティールの流行を取り入れて技術水準を高めました。1919年にはバウハウスの設立に大きく関わり、ミース・ファン・デル・ローエやマルセル・ブロイヤーなどとスティール製の新しい椅子の開発を手がけました。第二次世界大戦後、唯一残ったドイツ・フランケンベルグの工場で再出発を期し、それを契機にして、曲木の椅子をさらに完成度の高いプロポーションへと改良し、東ヨーロッパの旧トーネットの工場で生産される曲木家具との差別化を図っていきました。現在、外部デザイナーとのコラボレーションワークにより、新しい素材、新しい技術の開発に果敢に挑戦し、常にデザイン・クォリティの高い製品を世に送り出しています。

1796年、ドイツで誕生。1819年 家具工房を開き、1830年には積層材を用いた曲木技術の研究を始め、1842年に特許を取得。この技術で美しい曲木椅子を製造し、高い生産性をも実現さ せました。中でも1859年につくられたNO.14は曲木椅子の名作として名高いものとなっています。1849年、ウィーンに工房を開設、現在ま でのトーネット社発展の礎を築きます。発明家/企業家の両方において家具を量産するという近代システムの基盤をつくった先駆者です。
